This article is dedicated to Nigerians who have been patriotic , it's not the ones that are applauded on the TV screen with national awards.
There are others, the ones who not recognised , or who people have seen doing it, but don’t get why he/she is doing it. These set of people are not applauded.
Most times they are usually written off as, yes they are doing their jobs.
I want to dedicate this post to the numerous Nigerians out there; doing everything they can to make this country better place. Despite the prevailing situation, they believe in a better Nigeria.
People Like Late Madam Dora Akunyili, Mahmoud Modibo Tukur,Ayodel Awojobi,Pa Micheal Aikhamen Imoudu,Fela Anikulapo Kuti,Mogwuko Okoye,Dan Maraya Jos, Ransome Kuti,Gani Fawehinmi, Wole Soyinka, and others .

I am also talking about the traffic wardens who control the traffic come rain, come shine.

The people that sweep the streets and the high ways(LAWMA)
The LAWMA that disposes your trash every Thursday,
The non corrupt police men, who strive to keep or city safe.
The soldiers at the war front fighting the boko Harams everyday.
The footballers who play for their country, despite their allegiance to foreign clubs.
The doctors in the emergency unit who treat accident victims and gunshot victim, without police reports
All these people are indeed are patriots in their own little ways. we should emulate.
Although you may argue that they are doing their jobs, but I believe they are making a difference. What they are paid cannot be compared to the impact of their jobs to the prosperity of our nation
But again there are Nigerians who believe this country is not worth dieing for. Their reasons although are justifiable.
For example how will a country so rich yet have so many poor citizens.
A country that is not plagued by earth quake or natural disaster but the citizens dies daily due to the poor health care system. Majority of Nigerian now argue that the democracy we claim to have is government of people, by a few and for a few.
The democracy has become overburdened with beaucracy, corruption, sycophancy, nepotism and impunity.
A government, which cannot protect its citizens from terrorist attacks, health hazards e.t.c. A government that has failed its citizens cannot compel them to be patriotic.
Nigerians can be patriotic if the leaders pose good examples in their leadership, transparency, accountability, objectivity and sincerity. Our citizens can be patriotic if the government encourage a sense of belonging and a sense of fairness.
But even if our country has failed us, we must strive not to fail it.
Remember it’s not what Nigerian can do for you, but what you can do for Nigeria.
Being patriotic, is being inspired by the love for ones country, being loyal, being jingoistic.
As a Nigerian today ask yourself that question.
If you cannot love your country, how then do you want it to be better? We all wish and hope we get that free ticket to yankee and at all cost remain there for the rest of our lives and answer Nigerian in Diaspora.
But we do not love our country so much as to keep the gutters clean, not make faulty light connections, keep the drains clean, community policing, build good roads, accept each other’s religion.
The westerners act, putting their country first seeking the growth and development of their nation for their future generation.
But we on the other hand enslaved by greed have pulled our country singlehandedly into the gutters of corruption. We loot the treasures of our country with no love for the country. We empty our trash in the drainage systems and cause flood will ultimately affect us.
For the love of our country
Let stand us, clenched fist together embrace and accept ourselves.
For the love of our country, lets stand up to corrupt practices.
For the love of our country, let’s chant the national anthem with pride
For the love of our country, let’s make policies that encourage industrialization.
For the love of our country, let’s stop pirate music videos and movies.
For the love of our country, let’s embrace the diversities of our cultures.
For the love of our country, let’s accept the diversity of our religious practices.
A country surrounded by water, hills and valleys, filled with tourist attractive scenery. A country not plagued by tsunami or earthquakes. We are called out to love our country, save our country in every little way necessary.

So join me and pledge today
For the love of my country, I will arise as a compatriots!
For the love of my country, I will honor the labor of my heroes past!
For the love of my country, I will trash my waste appropriately and not in the streets
